WHY ARE WE A PROUD ROMANIAN LAW FIRM?
The old Romanian law has no roots in the medieval law of other nations, but it sure has roots in the Roman law.
When referring to the influence of Roman law on medieval Romanian law, a few methodological clarifications should be made.
First, Romanian medieval law means the set of legal realities of the Romanians from the period approximately between 500-600 and 1600, i.e. from the Middle Ages. In another sense, Romanian medieval law is, first of all, what the sources call ius valachicum in Transylvania and Hungary, but also in Poland, Croatia, Slovakia, Serbia, or the custom of the land in Wallachia and Moldova.
It is, in a way, the people’s law, the right of the Romanian crowd and less so the right of the ruling elite, originating mainly from the Byzantine-Slavic world.
In conclusion Romanian law has deep rooting in Roman law, due to it’s long history of the past years and centuries.
